  • Justine's 4710 E 5th St Austin, TX, 78702 United States (map)

Every generation needs a new revolution.
~Thomas Jefferson

Storm the Bastille at Justine’s- This is our loudest, most rebellious party of the year! We’ll be tearing down the walls, the walls of convention, the walls of oppression, the walls of sexism, racism, borders, inequality. We’ll be celebrating changes born of revolution, and imploring that there’s yet so much more to be done. PUNK ROCK REVOLUTION!

From France we have iconic punk rock band Metal Urbain! Métal Urbain was one of the very first French punk groups, they were Francophone contemporaries of the Sex Pistols and The Clash. Formed in 1976 in Paris by Clode Panik, Hermann Schwartz, Pat Luger and Eric Debris, the French punk rock group’s harsh and noisy sound replaced the rhythm section with a synthesizer and drum machine. Sonically, they came across as aggressive—if not more so—as their English or American counterparts. They were one of the few French bands to record with John Peel and the first to release a single on Rough Trade.

Doing a spoken word set JUST FOR US, as well as DJing, we have Jello Biafra! Jello was the former lead singer and songwriter for San Francisco punk rock band Dead Kennedys, and is currently a musician and spoken word artist. After he left the Dead Kennedys, he took over the influential independent record label Alternative Tentacles, which he had co-founded in 1979 with Dead Kennedys bandmate East Bay Ray. Politically, Biafra is a member of the Green Party of the United States even running for the party's Presidential nomination in 2000, finishing second to Ralph Nader. He is a staunch believer in a free society, who utilizes shock value and advocates direct action and pranksterism in the name of political causes. Biafra is known to use absurdist media tactics, in the leftist tradition of the Yippies, to highlight issues of civil rights and social justice.

Fom San Antonio, we have PInATA PROTEST. NPR says of them: “You Should Listen To Piñata Protest. They have never been afraid to make noise; to be complicated, unconventional, new and old at the same time. The ranchero punk group has had our heart since the first time we met.”

We’re bringing in Los Angeles installation artist Emily Hughes to build out our celebration, she’ll be building enormous beautiful art pieces because we are crazy.

We have Crawford Morgan Photography shooting you in an insane red, white and blue Holi powder photobooth, along with your mohawks and safety-pinned, handmade t-shirts, wear clothes that you can thrash if you want to do the booth! White works especially well!

Jello Biafra and Eric Debris from Metal Urbain will doing a DJ set before and after!

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
